If the scoter has done several thousand
miles it should be ok, more than 20,000 miles and you are taking a
gamble, there could be any number of deep setaed long term and
expensive problems that need to be fixed.
You may get a used scooter at a bargain price, but you may have to
spend hundreds on repairs.
I once had a used scooter that needed a new throttle cable as the
throttle was on full all the time. The entire repair bill came to over
£100, just for a cable and the labour / import costs as the part
needed to be sent from another country.
If I had decided to buy a brand new scooter instead then I may not have
had that problem, in fact I may have avoided any repair bills all
together before deciding to sell the scooter and upgrade to a full
motorcycle.
Used scooters almost always come with some sort of minor
problem, but they also come with a low price tag. But thanks to
internet retailers cutting out all of the middle-men, it often works
out cheaper in the long run to buy a brand new scooter instead of a
used one.
In the UK, scooters are not the most common form of transport, in fact
it is fair to say that cars are the most popular mode of
transportation, and because of this there are not many used scooters
available to buy online.
If you wanted to buy a car, then obviously you would get a used car for
far less than a new one, but as new and used scooters cost about the
same amount of money, it makes sense to buy a new scooter instead of a
used one.
